TAXI CAPE TOWN – unlike other major cities, available taxis are not readily found in many of Cape Town’s streets (perhaps with the exception of the tourist-friendly Waterfront area). Visitors should plan ahead, and pre-program some reputable local taxi companies on their smart phones, so that they can arrange a taxi by phone:

Note: For those who feel comfortable enough with Cape Town, there are London-style black cabs that buzz around the central areas called “Rikkis” (who charge around R20 to R25, or US$2.40), providing door-to-door service. The one catch to this cheaper fare is the fact that these Rikki taxis often pick up additional passengers en route (meaning that you’re in effect sharing a ride with one or more strangers).
